These dreamlike and mythical spaces where the elements engage in epic battles are metaphors for an inner conflict with the cosmos and hounded by its demons.King began by constructing very simple models, carefully selecting and arranging their components to represent earth, air, fire and water.King capitialized upon photography's power to transform ordinary materials, bringing out their surprising monumental qualities. She thus created highly believable images in which the natural and the artificial coexist.
